The firing of Sam Altman by the OpenAI Board of Directors caused an earthquake of many degrees on the Richter scale in the tech industry. After all, Altman had the status of being not only the face of OpenAI but of the entire AI industry as a whole. Moreover, according to The Verge , some OpenAI employees had threatened to leave the company as well if Altman did not return.
An internal memo reportedly said OpenAI list of mobile phone numbers database chief strategy officer Jason Kwon told staff that efforts were being made to bring back Altman and other executives who had also resigned. Altman's dismissal was followed by the resignations of OpenAI president Greg Brockman and three senior researchers: Jakub Pachocki, Aleksander Madry and Szymon Sidor.
“We are working on a solution and remain optimistic ,” Kwon wrote in that memo, according to The Information . “We want to bring back Sam, Greg, Jakub, Szymon, Aleksander and other colleagues and continue to be the place where people who want to work in AI research can do their best work,” Kwon said.
OpenAI is a non-governmental parent company, and its board of directors is run by a subsidiary where Altman was most recently CEO . Following the departure of Altman and Chairman Brockman, who resigned following Altman's dismissal, OpenAI's board of directors now consists of four people: Ilya Sutskever, the company's chief scientist, and three non-staff members.
