Meet the American Swimming Coaches Association: How a team of 10 serves more than 10,000 members a year

One of the nice things about membership and subscription sites is that they can be perfectly designed and tailored to the needs, desires, and capabilities of the person or team who will ultimately manage the site.

We recently covered this topic on our podcast with Ryan Murray. He refers to this process as “ building a company you can and actually want to run ."

If you're a solopreneur or small business owner, creating a membership site could be as simple as securing a few pages on your website that host exclusive content, such as a video course or a private community forum.

Instead of creating one membership level that gives access to a few exclusive pieces of content, a large organization may need a dozen, all with unique access rights and membership privileges.

Now let’s assume that a large organization like this needs to sell more than just memberships, such as stand-alone training courses, tickets to events and conferences throughout the year, books, clothing, and much more. Unless you have smart, strategic plans and systems in place, things could quickly get tangled and disorganized.

Well, that was the exact situation the Asociación Americana de Entrenadores de Natación (ASCA) faced less than a year ago. It's a large international organization with many different offerings. After years of managing its entire membership organization through its website, its processes became cumbersome, tedious, and slow.

We sat down with their Chief Digital Officer, Kyle Mills, and found out how they have completely revolutionized the way their partner organization operates by leveraging powerful tools and creating intelligent systems at every stage of their partner journey.
