Business bankruptcies rose by 34% in 2021 and dissolutions by 20%

During 2021, 5,862 business bankruptcies and 27,760 dissolutions were recorded in Spain, which represent increases of 34% and 20%, respectively, compared to 2020.
This is evident from the 'Study on Bankruptcy and Dissolution' carried out by Informa D&B, a subsidiary of Cesce, which emphasizes that it must be kept in mind that in 2020, due to the state of alarm caused by the pandemic, the data decreased .
In any case, the number of bankruptcies is the highest since 2014, while the number of dissolutions has not been so high since 2013, a year earlier, according to this study.
In December 2021, the number of bankruptcies was 387, down from the previous three months and 16% lower than in the same month in 2020. However, dissolutions rose for the third consecutive month, reaching 3,300, the second highest figure of the year, which is 11% higher than in December 2020.
Data by sector
All sectors have seen increases in the number of bankruptcies since January, except for communications, which fell by 9%, and financial intermediation, which fell by 2%.
