Post by sakib25 »

Carolina Mahía, Digital Marketer and IM student, talks to us about how she has forged her professional path towards Digital Marketing. Today, she works as a PPC Specialist for PHD Media, a media agency born in the United Kingdom and with more than 100 offices around the world. Read on to find out about her professional growth.

You started your career doing administrative tasks in companies such saudi arabia consumer mobile number list as Samsung Spain or BB Aventurero. What did these experiences bring you?
Yes, I started working when I was 18 in different jobs as an administrator and receptionist, which I combined with my studies. At that time I was studying English Philology because I was convinced that I hated numbers, but I didn't want to be an English teacher either. I was clear about this from the very beginning. In fact, those jobs were my first contact with the business world, which I loved from the start, but above all they helped me realise that I really wanted to advance professionally and not be an administrator or receptionist, but that was impossible for me.

However, when I went to interviews for more senior positions I usually failed them because my studies were not applicable to any particular department. In fact, everything was going well until they saw what I studied. They always said to me: “You know a lot of English, don’t you?” It was at that point that I knew they wouldn’t call me.

I particularly remember one summer, when through a contact on Twitter I got the opportunity to go to The Brandery clothing fair. I loved the atmosphere at the stands, the professionalism of the employees of the different brands, etc. As a result of that, I knew that if I wanted to advance professionally I had to change my studies. And that was when the idea of marketing came up. I found it very attractive and interesting and although it was still only a very vague idea in my mind, I knew that it would be great to be able to dedicate myself to it to a greater or lesser extent.

Later, you entered the world of digital marketing, working for the e-commerce Social Gluten. What tasks did you perform as a communications and marketing assistant?
The Social Gluten project was an internship offered by the Santander grants, which were paid directly to university students to work in SMEs or newly-founded companies. They came about when I was already studying for a degree in Marketing and Market Research at the UOC and they really helped me to get rid of the administrative label and start to delve into the world of marketing. As it was a company that was just being created by another colleague, who was a nutritionist, and myself, we did everything. From creating content on social networks, to estimating results, web design, corporate image (in fact, we created it ourselves), customer service, calculating profit margins to know at what price each product had to be sold, etc. It was a fairly intense six months.
