Worldwide, fake news is spreading more and more. With all the (social) channels and resources of today, that problem is only getting bigger. This is evident from the recent abuses in India , which actually forced WhatsApp to take on fake news. That is why the well-known chat app has introduced a new function.
Label forwarded messages
Last week, WhatsApp announced that it would now label forwarded messages . This means that the word "Forwarded" will appear above the forwarded message, as you can see in the image below.
It sounds like a simple addition, but the messaging app wants to provide extra context with it. This makes b2b email list it easier for users to follow one-on-one and group chats. It also lets you know whether a forwarded message came directly from your contact(s) or from another source. The label applies globally to text, image, video and audio messages.
When introducing this new feature , WhatsApp (remarkably) emphasizes safety : “WhatsApp takes your safety very seriously. We encourage you to think carefully before sharing messages that have been forwarded.” The chat app could be referring to the recent events in India, where forwarding fake news has caused many deaths.
Largest sales market
Before WhatsApp officially introduced the feature, the chat app had tested the forwarding label in beta in India. India is WhatsApp's largest market: 300 million Indians have a smartphone, of which more than 200 million people use the well-known chat app . In concrete terms, this means more than 13 billion messages per day (!).
